The new grain season 2021/22 has already started. And this means that the grain of the new harvest will go en masse to ports – by water, by rail and by highways. The harvest is expected to be quite good this year, but will our roads be able to withstand, because “overloads” in road transport are still a painful point in grain logistics.

In Ukraine, adopted a bill №3742. The document establishes at the legislative level the automatic fixation of the size and weight control (GVK) by Weigh-in-Motion (WiM) complexes, and also establishes the rights and obligations of consignors for violations of the GVK.

What is a Weigh-in-Motion (WiM) system?

During the reconstruction of roads, automatic complexes are installed. They are ground strips in which weight sensors are mounted. Above these strips are frames equipped with cameras and a radar that measures the dimensions of the vehicle.

WiM complexes allow collecting information on the date and time of vehicle travel, its overall dimensions, total weight and its distribution along the axes into a single car card. The system records the temperature of the air and the road surface, the lane, the direction and speed of movement and the state number plate. The system reacts to specific violations and transmits them to target authorities.

One of the advantages of the system is the quick fixation of violations of dimensions and weight standards. Instant collection from various databases, the formation of a decision and sending to the offender – to the legal entity. Address or place of registration of an individual. The entire system works 24/7 and records violations at any time of the day.
Market reaction to congestion law

On the whole, the market is pleased with the strengthening of overload control. Most freight carriers benefit from normal control on the roads. There will be no dumping, tariffs will stabilize.

He gave his comments on cargo transportation
Chief Operating Officer G.R. Agro Artem Rempen:
“The Group’s vehicle fleet transports grain to ports without overloading – this is the position of the company’s owners. And the company is very pleased with the result. We have a very positive result in terms of transport repairs, during the season we saved about 400 thousand hryvnias on cars. For our small fleet of 60 vehicles, this is essential. “

Also, carriers have a question about the maximum load of cars from the fields during the harvesting company of farmers and the turnover of vehicles.

“During the harvest, the farmers have their own mathematics. There, the question is not about the logistics itself, but about putting the maximum number of harvester walkers into one machine. Then he needs fewer cars. Then no one is trying to save 50 hryvnias per ton, because for the farmer a simple combine will cost much more. Therefore, we accept this kind of transport from our clients to the harvesting area, despite the fact that we do not really like it. “
